Comprehension Strategies Questioning helps monitor comprehension in order to clarify confusion or answer questions about the text. Clarifying/Monitoring is the process the student uses to recognize and clear up confusing parts or unknown words in text. Visualizing is taking clues revealed in the text and illustrations, then combining them to create images in our minds to help unlock the meaning of text. Inferring is the process of creating a meaning from text that is implied. It involves a mental process of combining what is read with relevant prior knowledge. Predicting is the process of creating active involvement with the text by anticipating upcoming events, actions, or information. Synthesizing involves merging new information with existing knowledge to see another perspective, or form a new line of thinking to achieve meaning. Summarizing involves restating briefly the most important parts of a text in your own words. Evaluating involves students making judgments and explaining their reasoning. |
