Mr. Topel believes that information literacy is essential for ongoing student
success, not only in school, but more importantly in the work place.
What is Information Literacy?
Information literacy is the ability to
locate, evaluate, and use information to become independent life-long learners.
(More information)
In this course:
-
You will learn to use library and
Internet-based sources of information.
-
You will learn to evaluate that information.
-
You will learn to assemble the pieces of
information into a unified whole.
-
You will learn to present your information
using Microsoft Office software.
-
And you will have a good time doing it.
Project-based Learning
Our curriculum will be project-based. That means that the students will be
completing projects and solving problems. We will gain understanding of computer
systems and their uses by DOING, not by WATCHING.
Instructor Role
Mr. Topel will guide you and facilitate your projects. He will NOT do the
work for you. He will NOT lead you by the hand every step of the way. Students
are expected to think, try, and even fail -- that is how we learn!
Student Role
As with any educational environment, students' active participation and
behavior have a huge impact on the amount of material covered. Remember, using computers is a PRIVILEGE not a RIGHT. Any student who cannot
maintain proper behavior will NOT be using computers, scanners, digital cameras,
or any other technology resources.
